Goodbye API v1, hello v3! πŸš€

As technology evolves, so must we. At AzireVPN, we are always working to provide the best and most secure experience to users. This is reflected by our core values: 1. commitment to privacy and anonymity; 2. transparency and integrity, and 3. innovation. Specifically with a focus on this third value – innovation – we are finally officially retiring API v1 on July 1st, 2024. We are currently already operating on API v3 – you can find all the details about it here.

Why the Change?

Simply put, API v3 offers better security, performance, and features compared to older versions. Moving to API v3 ensures we continue to provide top-notch VPN service that meets today’s standards.

What This Means for You

If you're still using API v1, it’s important to switch to API v3 to avoid any issues or service disruptions. Here are a couple of things to watch out for:

  • Old GL.iNet routers: If your router uses API v1 to create tunnels, you won’t be able to create new ones. Existing tunnels will still work
  • Old az-client script: The old az-client script will stop working after the shutdown. We recommend downloading the latest version from our GitHub repository

Transitioning to API v3

Switching to API v3 is easy. Here’s how:

  1. Review the documentation: Get to know the new features and changes in API v3
  2. Update your scripts: Update any custom scripts using API v1 to use API v3 instead
  3. Upgrade your GL.iNet router: Check for firmware updates or – consider getting a newer model that supports API v3
  4. Download the latest az-client script: Make sure you have the latest version from our GitHub repository
